Necklace with the Rune Laguz

The rune Laguz represents water, possibly as a source of fertility. The rune is often associated with the god Njord, one of the Vanir. Njord was the god of the sea, weather, wealth, trade, shipping and fishing.
Njord had the two children Frey and Freyja with his first, unknown wife, who could be the goddess described by Tacitus as Nerthus, whose name is the female equivalent of Njord. Njord's first wife, Frey and Freyja's mother, may have remained in Vanaheim, but it has been debated whether Nerthus and Njord are actually the same deity, who changed gender as the religion evolved from matriarchal to more patriarchal.
The interpretation of the rune Laguz as ocean, sea, waterfall and lake, or the swirling stream and the land of the fish, all relate to water, which in the world of mythology usually is a female element, as is the extended meaning, chaos, the unknown, and the potential for rebirth; the rune also has a fertility aspect.
The rune Laguz corresponds to the letter L.
