Ginger is one of our oldest known spices and medicinal plants. It was already in use in China 3000 years ago. The ancient Greeks used to put ginger in bread and eat it after large meals to aid with digestion. In the 13th and 14th centuries, a pound of ginger was valued as highly as a whole sheep.

Ginger tea may aid in case of colds and sore throats and may be served with honey and a few drops of lemon. There is a suspicion that high doses of ginger may induce miscarriage.
