Cordelia

Cordelia

"What shall Cordelia speak? Love, and be silent."

***

Cordelia is a legendary character from the Middle Ages, immortalized by Shakespeare's tragedy “King Lear”.

Cordelia is King Lear's youngest daughter. When King Lear decides to divide his kingdom between his three daughters, based on how much they say they love him, Cordelia says that she loves him as a daughter should, no more and no less. Apparently, this is not what King Lear likes to hear. The king decides to divide his kingdom between her two sisters.

Cordelia's loyalty to her father is unwavering, even when he disowns her. Despite being banished by her father, Cordelia returns to help him. She leads an army to fight against her sisters and their husbands, who have taken over the kingdom and mistreated King Lear. Cordelia's army wins the battle, but unfortunately, she is captured and ultimately dies.
